There is a difference between a REALTOR® and a real estate licensee. A licensee takes a test and receives a license to practice real estate. A REALTOR®, in addition to being licensed by the state, has obligations higher than those mandated by law that are enforced by the National Association of REALTORS® (NAR), an organization that consists of professional real estate people and brokers that adhere to a strict code of ethics and specific guidelines for completing complex real estate transactions. They are held accountable by their colleagues, their local Association of REALTORS®, the Massachusetts Association of REALTORS® (MAR) and the National Association of REALTORS®. REALTORS® have access to the best training and education and lobby on Beacon Hill and on Capitol Hill to protect and preserve homeowner rights. The REALTOR® Association is equivalent to the Bar Association and the American Medical Association. You want the best professional for your legal and medical needs and you want the best professional for your real estate needs.
